Roulette Beginners Guide

Virtually everyone is familiar with the game of roulette, if having not played it themselves, at least having seen it be played in popular movies. Roulette is a fast paced, exciting game, likely to get the pulse pounding, and perhaps even resulting players jumping with joy. At it’s core, it is an easy game to understand. But, for those who are not familiar with the rules, it can perhaps seem a bit overwhelming and confusing.

Thankfully, even a person who has never played the game can quickly understand how to participate in a game of roulette. Let’s take a look now at the rules of roulette, and get beginners ready to jump in and start playing immediately.

The Wheel And Ball

The black and red spinning wheel is a very iconic part of the game of roulette, and likewise the core of the rules of the game. Around the edge of the wheel is a series of numbered pockets, each coloured red or black. There is also a zero pocket, one in the European version, and two zero pockets in the American version. It is always better to play with a wheel that has only a single zero pocket, since it gives the player a better chance at winning.

With the wheel in motion, a white ball is released. After clattering about, the ball will make its way into one of the pockets. Very simply, the player must make a prediction as to which pocket the white ball will end up in. If guessing correctly, the player will win. If making an incorrect guess, the player will lose any money placed down as a bet.

The Zero Pocket

Note that the zero is not included in any group bets, and is not red or black. This means that the zero pocket generally results in all bets being lost, on the occasions it is the outcome of a spin. In other words, the zero pocket is the house edge. You’ll find this zero (and the double zero pocket if you are playing the American version) in all Canadian roulette online games, as there must always be a way for the house to take its cut.

Precise Betting Options

It is allowed for the player to make either a very specific bet as to which pocket the ball will land in, and also for the player to make a more generalised guess. If wanting to, the player may attempt to predict the exact pocket. This is very risky, and a less likely to succeed bet. But, if successful, the payout will be a large one.

If wanting to select a specific number as a bet, chips need only be placed on the number desired. This can generally be done by clicking, or tapping, the desired number.

Group Betting Options

In order to increase the chances of a successful bet, the player may choose a group of number to bet on. The roulette betting table is arranged so that this may be done quickly and easily. For example, the player may bet on all even numbers, or all odd numbers. Bets may also be placed on all red numbers, or all black numbers, which is a very popular bet. Group betting options are generally self-explanatory, as indicated on the table. A good strategy is to spread bets around, thus increasing the chances of success.
